# Yield Report

Turn harvest yield data into zone-level decisions, validate variable-rate performance, and plan next season.

The Yield Report turns one harvest season into an actionable decision. It shows field performance, zone and rate response, and where to act next.

Open a field and select the **Yield Report** tab.

* Field averages, total production, harvested area, and yield variability.
* A yield map with zones in overlay or split view.
* Rate-versus-yield analysis for prescribed or applied rates.
* Economics that show whether the extra product paid for itself.
* Zone summaries, yield distributions, and multi-year trends.
* A written summary, next-season suggestions, and a shareable PDF.

### Before you start

You need one imported yield dataset for the field.

Select a zones map or an as-applied map for zone-level analysis.

For reliable decisions, clean and calibrate yield data first. The picker marks cleaned and corrected datasets. GeoPard prefers these datasets by default.

Use the layer that was applied that season. A zones map supplies prescribed rates, an as-applied map supplies the rates the machine actually put down.

For the economics section, you also need a crop price and a price for the product you want to analyse. Prescription product prices prefill automatically.

### Open the report

1. Open the farm, then the field.
2. Select **Yield Report** tab, next to Data Layers and Field Details.
3. Review the preselected season, yield dataset, attribute, and comparison layer.

GeoPard selects the most recent yield dataset. It prioritizes cleaned or calibrated versions.

It also selects that season's zones map. If unavailable, it uses an as-applied map from the same season.

The first report for a dataset can take a minute while GeoPard prepares the analytics data.

### Set up the report

The filter bar controls every result below it.

| Filter                   | What it does                                                                       |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Season**               | Selects the harvest season.                                                        |
| **Dataset**              | Selects the yield dataset. Cleaning and calibration badges distinguish versions.   |
| **Dataset attribute**    | Select an attribute that represents yield, such as dry or wet yield.               |
| **Compare by**           | Selects a zones map or as-applied map.                                             |
| **Rate column**          | Selects one prescribed product or **All rates**. Available for rate prescriptions. |
| **As-applied attribute** | Selects the applied measure used for grouping, such as seeding or nitrogen rate.   |

#### Choose a comparison layer

Use an **as-applied map** to validate machine execution. GeoPard groups the selected applied attribute into rate classes.

### Read the report

#### KPI summary

The top tiles provide four field-wide measures:

* **Avg \[attribute]** — the selected attribute's field average.
* **Total \[attribute]** — total production for per-area attributes.
* **Harvested Area** — harvested area against field area, such as `48.2 / 52.0 ha`.
* **Variability (CV)** — coefficient of variation as a percentage.

A large harvested-area gap can indicate missing passes or boundary issues. It can also indicate aggressive cleaning.

Low CV indicates a uniform field. High CV indicates variability worth managing.

#### Field map

The map displays the selected yield attribute and comparison layer.

* **Split** displays yield and zones side by side at the same extent.

* **Overlay** places zones over the yield map. Use **Zones opacity** to blend layers.

#### Applied rates versus yield

This chart compares rate and yield by zone.

| **% of avg**      | You need to compare variation patterns across different units.   |
| **Low-high**      | You need each zone's position within its series range.           |
| **Rate vs Yield** | You need to assess the yield response to each rate step.         |
| **Economics**     | You need to assess each zone's economic contribution.            |

**Rate vs Yield** orders zones by rate. It shows how yield changed as the rate increased.

Choose **Previous by rate** to compare each rate with the next lowest rate.

Choose **Base zone** to compare every zone with a reference. GeoPard selects the largest zone as the default reference.

If the **zones map** has **no** **prescription**, the chart uses the zone index average. It labels this value Zone avg.

#### Zone summary table

Each row represents one zone:

* **Area** shows area and the field share.
* **Rate columns** show prescribed products and units.
* **Average** shows average yield for the zone.
* **Total** shows production for per-area attributes.
* **vs field avg** shows the zone's percentage difference from the field average.

Area shares can total less than 100%. This occurs where yield data is missing.

### Economics: did the variable rate pay?

This section converts yield and rate differences into economic results.

#### 1. Enter your prices

The **Prices** row sits next to the KPI tiles.

Enter a **crop price** for the reported yield attribute. Enter a price for each prescribed product. For as-applied comparisons, enter the selected attribute's price. Prescription product prices prefill the report. You may only need to add the crop price.

#### 2. Read the economics chart

Switch the rate comparison chart to **Economics**. Each zone is compared with the field average in currency per hectare or acre.

* **Product cost effect** shows one series for each priced product. A positive value means lower spend than the field average.
* **Yield value** shows the zone's yield value against the field average.
* **Net** adds product cost effect and yield value.

The figures sum to zero across the field. The chart shows each zone's contribution, not total field earnings.

Hover over a zone to see the total net effect for that zone. This highlights small per-area effects across large zones.

If prices are missing, the chart shows **Add prices to see zone economics**. Select the button to jump to **Prices**.

#### 3. Check whether each rate step paid for itself

In **Economics** mode, the zone table becomes **Did the extra product pay for itself?**

Select a product. GeoPard sorts zones by its applied rate. Each row compares one rate step with the next.

| Column             | What it tells you                                                  |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Rate step**      | The change from one zone rate to the next.                         |
| **Zones**          | The two zones compared by the step.                                |
| **Extra product**  | The step's product cost per area.                                  |
| **Yield response** | The break-even yield response and actual response.                 |
| **Net result**     | Money gained or lost from the step.                                |
| **Verdict**        | Whether the step **paid off**, **did not pay**, or **break-even**. |

The verdict includes the break-even crop price. It also shows price headroom before a profitable step stops paying.

If the step showed no measurable yield response, GeoPard states this. It also flags steps that cannot pay at any crop price.

This is a delta calculation between zones. It excludes other seasonal costs and is not a whole-farm P\&L.

#### 4. How the numbers are calculated

**Zone figures**, each zone against the field average:

* Product cost effect = (field average rate − zone rate) × product price
* Yield value = (zone average yield − field average yield) × crop price
* Net = the two added together

**Rate step figures**, each zone against the next lowest rate:

* Step cost = extra product × product price
* Break-even yield response = step cost ÷ crop price
* Net result = (actual yield response × crop price) − step cost
* Break-even crop price = step cost ÷ actual yield response

**Verdict** follows the return on the extra product: +20% or more is paid off, −10% or worse is did not pay, anything between is break-even.

Averages are weighted by area, and only cells with both a yield value and a rate value are included.

### Summary and suggestions

The summary explains the selected yield and rate comparison. It flags positive performance and areas to investigate.

### Yield distribution by zone

The box plot shows each zone's minimum, quartiles, median, and maximum.

A tight box indicates a consistent zone. A tall box indicates mixed conditions or data requiring review.

Wide, overlapping distributions can justify rebuilding management zones

### Multi-year trend

The trend displays one bar per season and crop. It includes all crops for the field.

GeoPard prioritizes cleaned or calibrated datasets. It then uses the newest dataset. Your selected dataset always controls its own bar.

The chart flags different units across seasons. Do not interpret these bars as a direct trend.

### Act on the results

Use the report actions to move from validation to planning:

* **Export PDF Report** creates a complete, shareable field report.
* **Create Zones from This Yield** turns harvest performance into next-season zones.
* **Open in Compare Layers** opens yield and the comparison layer for deeper investigation.

The PDF includes KPIs, maps, charts, zone results, the economics section, summary, suggestions, distributions, and trends. Use it for grower meetings, landlord reporting, and season records.

### Typical workflows

#### Did my VRA prescription work?

Select the completed harvest season. Compare it with the applied zones map. Select the varied product and use **Rate vs Yield**.

Yield rising then flattening identifies where extra input stopped paying. Flat response indicates the rate variation did not change results.

Enter prices and switch to Economics to see whether each rate step paid for itself. A flat response with a rising rate is where the money is being lost.

#### Did the machine apply what I prescribed?

Run the report against the zones map, then against the as-applied map for the same operation.

Compare the rate columns first. A gap between the prescribed rate and the applied rate is an execution issue, not an agronomic one.

When the rates differ, the as-applied run gives the more accurate economics, because it prices the product that actually went out.

#### Which fields deserve soil sampling budget?

Prioritize fields with high CV. Look for zones consistently below the field average.

#### Are my zones still right?

Review the distribution box plot. Wide, overlapping zone distributions indicate zones no longer represent field variability.

Select **Create Zones from This Yield** to rebuild them with current results.

### Where ROI comes from

* **Input savings** — find the rate steps that did not pay and cut them where the result repeats.
* **Yield gains** — target consistently underperforming zones with the greatest upside.
* **Prioritization** — use CV and zone deltas to focus budget on responsive fields.
* **Risk reduction** — compare prescribed and applied rates before errors repeat.
* **Validation** — see whether the prescription worked, and plan the next one from the result.
* **Evidence** — a shareable PDF with prices and per-step results backs up rate decisions with owners and advisors.
